About the event
Marquette County, in partnership with Marquette County Conservation District and Let’s Grow KI, was awarded a Department of Natural Resources, Inflation Reduction Act Urban and Community Forestry Grant this summer to design and install fruit and nut trees, berries, and native flowers in KI Sawyer! The project, which will be in the works through June of 2027, will include site prep work, removing invasive species, soil tests and amendments, planning orchard and tree guild layouts and planting over 200 trees between the Elementary school and Little Trout Lake, on the Silver Lead Greenway. Throughout the grant process, multiple workshops will be available with the possibility for KI Sawyer residents (add 18 and over?) to receive stipends for contributing to the community project during workshop events.
