Climate Action Plan
In March 2023, the Marquette County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution titled "Supporting Measures to Respond to a Changing Climate," underscoring the County's commitment to mitigating and adapting to a changing climate. The resolution laid the framework for the development of a comprehensive Climate Action Plan. This plan consists of two parts:
-
A strategic roadmap to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at County operated facilities to be in alignment with MI Healthy Climate Plan, and
-
Updated regional climate trends and data.
To advance these goals, the County Board has selected Johnson Controls Inc. to conduct an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit, a greenhouse gas emissions inventory, and a fleet review/EV analysis for County facilities. This audit served as the foundation for our initial deliverable.
For our second deliverable, Marquette County Planning Division hosted four "dialogue dinners" across the County. These events facilitated broader community input through informal discussions over buffet-style meals, complemented by a community survey for additional feedback from residents!
The Climate Action Plan was approved by the County Planning Commission in March, 2025 and in April, 2025 by the County Board of Commissioners.
Thank you for all that participated in these efforts.
The Marquette County Planning Division is an active participant in the Climate Adaptation Task Force.
